The first option for a gift in April is your traditional diamond in any form of jewelry, earrings, ring, necklace, or bracelet. How about all 4 ;-) lol! When buying a diamond there are 4 little things you need to keep in mind. They are called the 4 C’s. Now I am going to explain each one but first you have to decide what is most important to YOU when buying a diamond. I have quite a few favorite customers but one of them is a lovely lady(who shall remain nameless) that comes into the store quite a few times a year. Now she likes her jewelry big and she likes to find a bargain- who doesn’t :-) She likes her diamonds the same way… big and at a bargain. So to get this we have had to, on many occasion, order in diamonds that have more inclusions but have that big look just to satisfy what she likes. So in my opinion when you are buying a diamond it’s a little give and take. Here are the 4 C’s

Cut

Of all the 4Cs, cut has the greatest effect on a diamond’s beauty. In determining the quality of the cut, the grader evaluates the cutter’s skill in the fashioning of the diamond; technology. The more precise the cut, the more captivating the diamond is to the eye.

Color

Gem-quality diamonds occur in many hues. In the range from colorless to light yellow or light brown. Colorless diamonds are the rarest. Other natural colors (Blue, Red, Pink for example) are known as fancy – their color grading is different than from white diamonds.

Clarity

Diamonds can have internal characteristics known as inclusions or external characteristics known as blemishes. Diamonds without inclusions or blemishes are rare; however, most characteristics can only be seen with magnification.

Carat

The carat is the diamond’s physical weight measured in metric carats. One carat equals 1/5 gram and is subdivided into 100 points. Carat weight is the most objective of the 4Cs. It involves no estimates, comparisons or judgments.

Now that you have learned about the 4C’s Lets give you a little information about Colored Diamonds. Fancy-color diamonds are natural, rare and truly exotic gem of the earth. Diamonds in hues of yellow, red, pink, blue, and green range in intensity from faint to vivid and generally the more saturated the color, the higher the value. In fact, diamonds sparkling with intense color are rare and may be priced higher than a colorless diamond of equal size. Because fancy-color diamonds are very desirable, color is sometimes introduced in a laboratory. These are correctly called color-treated diamonds.

There are a few new items at Reiniger’s I wanted to show off to everyone. The first is one very near and dear to me… my daughter Mikayla Rose Wegener born Feb 2, 2013. I took this photo of Paul and her on our very first car ride. Now if you have been into the store you know how family friendly the store and all of the employees are, we have a special play room just for the kiddos. In this room there are toys, blocks and books to name just a few items to keep little hands occupied until Mom and Dad are done with there shopping.

Did you know we have a wall of “smart” clocks? They are our Melodies in Motion Seiko Clocks. They play music every hour and there is a button on the back that you can switch to play holiday music. Now the reason we call them “smart” clocks is because they have a small sensor on the face of the clock, once the lights are off the clock no longer plays at night. I don’t know about you but I have spent the night in homes that have the large grandfather clocks that bong every hour waking you up.
